Pat MartinoPat Martino, the guitar god, and Tony Monaco, on a blistering Hammond B-3, tore down the house at the Portland Jazz Festival in 2009. Martino’s gorgeous custom guitar in electric black got a fleet-fingered workout as Portland’s guitar slingers watched and listened in awe as Martino’s fingers flew across the fret board effortlessly. It was a sight to see as an adoring ovation constantly bathed over Pat and he graciously accepted the accolades. Monaco was a great foil as the Hammond B-3 was a much better-spirited match for Pat than a piano would have been. Among the numerous highlights were Monk’s Round Midnight, Wes Montgomery’s Twisted Blues, Sunny, and Sonny Rollins’ Olio.
